J. Alonzo Forbes diary : Santa Clara, 1869 January 1 - 1870 May 26.

Journal of a lawyer and resident of Santa Clara, California, who was the sixth of twelve children of James Alexander Forbes, British vice-consul at Monterey. The journal features daily entries for weather conditions and occasional noteworthy events such as a shooting (p.25), a train collision (p. 84), and exercises at the University of the Pacific (p.43). Also recorded are entries concerning his legal activities, woodworking, transitions among his neighbors, and the birth of his daughter.
